(The banner carrier, crucifer, and chalice bearer need to be in the sacristy approximately 10 minutes before the service begins.)

Chalice Bearer instructions:

• Make sure the Gospel is in the Sacristy.
• Check that the lectern readings are on the correct readings and that the microphone is turned on.
• Make sure there is a program, 2 hymnals, and 2 Book of Common Prayers in the pew by the credence table for the banner carrier and the crucifer.
• Check the prayer list used in the Prayers of the People.
• Place the Gospel upright on the altar during the processional.
• Sit to the right of the priest.
• Read the Old Testament reading, unless a youth has been assigned.
• Process the Gospel if the crucifer is not trained for it.

o Get the Gospel from the altar as soon as the singing begins for the Gospel hymn.

o Hold it high during the procession, and then lower it so the priest can read it.

o After the reading has ended, hold it high as it is processed back to the altar.

o Place it flat on the altar.

• Pray the Prayers of the People.
• When reading the names on the prayer list, only use the first names.
• Invite people to offer their own intercessions, aloud or silently.
• Kneel at the lectern for the confession.
• Exchange peace with the priest.
• Return to the chair beside the organ.
• Following the offertory sentence:
• Reverence the cross.
• Enter the sanctuary.
• Stand to the right of the Bishop’s chair.
• Stand from the time of the Offertory until administration of communion.
• During the Eucharistic Prayer, participate – bow your head and make the cross when the priest does, bow when the priest genuflects.
• Commune the priest and follow with chalice to leader and choir.
• Perform ablutions as follows:
• When you finish, consume the wine at the credence table, rinse the chalice with water, and place the purificator across the top of the chalice (not inside the chalice).
• Place the lavabo bowl and towel on the shelf under the altar.
• Place the cruets of wine and water (with handles facing the window) on the far right of the credence table.
• Place the ciborium of unblessed wafer in the center of the credence table.
• Place the paten in the center front of the credence table.
• Place the chalice on the far left of the credence table.
• Recess after the banner carrier.

Additional responsibilities: serve as crucifer if one is not there

Crucifer instructions:

• When putting the cross in the holder during the processional, make sure the cross is facing the congregation (so that it can be seen).
• Sit on the side of the pew next to the wall (beside the credence table).
